"Everything in life has a purpose", they say! So why should your game not have a purpose? Most game developers just create a game without keeping the purpose of the game in mind. And that is why, most games fail as they do not manage to capture the heart of the gamer.
Take a game such as 'Metro Exodus' for example. The developer's main purpose was to give the gamer an open world like environment where they could essentially complete tasks to survive, progress the story, and find out more about the extremely interesting and hostile world of the Metro Universe. The reason why so many people fell in love with the game despite it having so many issues was because the developers, evidently, focused on giving the player an excellent environment and meaningful story that complimented the environment.
The purpose of a game such as Give it Up 2, is to give the player challenging levels and an extremely upbeat music, which will energize them, and at the same time give them a huge sense of accomplishment. It did this so well, that it was one of the highest rated games on the Google Play Store at one time.
If you, as a game designer, focus on creating a game around the purpose of the game, you will be able to provide gamers a game that will capture their hearts. Always focus on defining a purpose before doing anything else. Now imagine what you can create keeping that purpose in mind!
